In order to add new type definitions to the database and have signals recognized by LCM spy, you need to run the script gss_rebuilts_types. This should be located in ~/gss_bin on your system. It can also be copied from that location from another system.
Generally ~/gss_bin is added to the system path so the command can be run from anywhere. On a Linux system, this can be done by adding the absolute path to your rc.local file.
