Communication Status

The workspace communicates with a number of different subsystems. Many of these subsystems also communicate with other systems and devices. It is important to let the operator know the status of these communications channels as status and command functions rely on the integrity of these communications channels for proper operation. The workspace uses a consistent theme and several different devices to provide status on communications channels.

  • LEDs: On the status bar of the workspace, as well as throughout the workspace in several locations, individual LEDs provide the status of specific communications channels. A green LED indicates a valid and healthy communications link while a red LED indicates invalid communications.
  • Gray text: Throughout the workspace, gray text indicates the data for the particular device is missing and thus suggests communications for that device or component are not available.
  • Group box borders: Data from a particular device that is grouped together is bordered by a box. If comms to the device supplying the data is not available, the group box will be red. A green group box indicates valid comms.
  • Scope view information: The scope view provides detailed information on the devices and modules within the system. The scope view also only shows devices that are communicating. "STAT" messages are that come from a device and "CMD" messages go to device. "STAT" messages are the best messages to use for an indication of a communicating device. Inside of each message, the "publish_count" field indicates each message sent. If the "publish_count" field is incrementing, it indicates a communicating device.
